Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier | Book Review

Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier
General Overview:
Emerald Green is the phenomenal conclusion to the incredible Precious Stones series. With mad conspiracies, immortality and love on the line, Gwen will need to find out who she can trust in a world where love makes you weak.
If you would like to get a (highly spoilery) review of this book, feel free to ‘read more’ :)

Opinion of the Book:
My heart and emotions are now laying in a massive puddle of feels. This book has emotionally wrecked me! My brain is reeling and I am having trouble breathing!
This is the third and final book in the Precious Stone trilogy, and I must say that it was the best of them all. It perfectly summed up and linked everything that has happened over the course of book one and two. And the way that Kerstin Gier must have planned out this series with such great detail was absolutely I N C R E D I B L E!

The characters and storyline is just amazing! The only thing I have to say, is that the storyline was a little dense and a tiny bit predictable towards the end of this book. I felt like there was a lot of internal monologue going on, but not quite enough dialogue.

The conclusion was so sweet, and I loved being able to get the insight into Lucy and Paul’s life. But I would have liked to hear a little more about Gideon and Gwen. Like the two of them are immortal now! I want to know; with they age really slowly? Or will they stay looking young forever? If they had the second chronograph with the philosopher’s stone which is a funny name, because whenever I read it I think of Harry Potter! could they really find a way to cure all human illness?

Basically this book has left me shook. I enjoyed it so much! I even put of finishing the book for the past couple of days because I wanted to make it last longer...
But overall, this entire series was amazing and I L O V E D reading it so much!

Character Analysis:
Gwen – I really liked Gwen in this book, probably more so than in any of the other books. This may be because I felt as though in this book she didn’t just sit around and wonder why things were happening, instead she went out and tried to discover the answers surrounding the multitude of mysteries. I also felt as though she was much for rational and less impulsive. Overall, her character has developed so much over the duration of this series and I must say that I am quite impressed with how she handled different situations. Also I still find it totally cool that she can see ghosts and demons and is also I M M O R T A L!

Gideon – He redeemed himself. I hated him, and now I don’t. To be honest, I always knew that Gier would find a way to make the readers hatred for him turn into love. But I am still a little bit weirded out about how Gideon and Gwen fell in love with each other after like five days...
And I also feel like Gideon chose the long straw through all of this. Not only is he a time traveler, but he also is an immortal who is dating the only other immortal in all of existence! That we know of... Basically, you go Gideon!

Charlotte – She is probably the most depressing character in this whole series. In my review of Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue I have already talked about how much of a sticky situation poor Charlotte is going through. Sure, she acts like a bitch the majority of the time. But everything that she has ever held dear to her has suddenly been snatched away and handed to Gwen on a silver platter. Yes, Gwen never wanted any of this, but I cannot help but feel sorry for Charlotte. Also to top it all off, she loved Gideon, but he never felt the same way and now loves Gwen...

Lesley – Is one of my two favourite characters! Literally she is just the coolest! So open minded and always up for a mystery, without her I think that the book would have ended T O T A L L Y differently! I also find her blossoming relationship with Rafael really cute!

Xemerius – This little dude is by far, my absolute F A V O U R I T E character! I loved him so much! He is hilarious and brings a refreshing amount of sass and humour to the book, that without him would have had something majorly lacking. I love how loyal he is to Gwen, and also how helpful he is. He makes her laugh when she is sad and is the best spy since he can look through walls! Although I do feel as though at different points in the book he was a little under appreciated by Gwen, in the end all was well.

The Count/Mr Whitman – The hatred is real. I knew there was something sketchy about him from the moment I started reading the first book! But I must say that I really did like the twist that had him as being immortal well until Gwen was born and under cover as Mr Whitman! That was actually something that I didn’t expect to happen. But I do still have questions about what happened to him after the book finished... Did he just start aging and eventually die? What about all of his followers that were there to help him? I would have expected him to have planned for something like this... Now that I think about it, Gier could actually write another book where Mr Whitman was just a decoy and the real Count is still out there planning for his immortality...

Lucy and Paul – They are actually such cool characters, I wish that I got to read a little more about their story and their life before Gwen. Back when they were still getting to know each other and time travel for the first time. I think that would be great as Lucy is so fiery and Paul absolutely adores her. Yet another idea for Gier to write another series... Hint Hint!

The Verdict – Star Rating:
Similarly, to all of the other books in this series, I have to say that I loved this series and am quite sad to have finished it all so quickly...
This series keeps it high star rating from me as I give this book a rating of 5/5 stars!

I am very sad to have finished this series, but I know that I will probably re-read this a thousand times, so I so have to feel too sad.
