The Killer Contract Agency review - written by Jessica Samuels

Attention! This review may contain spoilers that could reveal the story line or events that occur over the duration of the book. If this does not bother you, or if you would just like to get a better feel of what this book is about before you read it, please feel free to carry on and enjoy this review.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Okay, so before I get into sharing my personal opinions of this book I just want to say that all opinions that I state are completely mine and I ALWAYS state my absolute, honest opinion. The opinions that I state, in no way set in stone what this book is actually like. Some people may love one book and other people may no like it, everything is down to personal preference. So please keep it in mind that I never try and bash a book or an author, I simply state my opinion.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Quick overview:
After having her life literally goes down in flames by the hand of a murdering alien species, known as the Malians, Salina is set on getting her revenge. When she is saved from being burnt alive by an honest to goodness fallen-angel, she is recruited to become a hunter by The Killer Contract Agency. Through the powers that a magical bracelet gives her, Salina quickly becomes a skilled hunter.
But something is not right, hunters are disappearing and turning up dead. It is up to Salina to harness her new abilities and save day...
That should be easy for someone with a magical bracelet... Right?

Personal opinion on the book:
I had some very mixed emotions about this book...
For starters I loved all of the magical elements that were included in the story, but I really felt as though too much was attempted to be included in this book. For instance the fact that there was an alien race and hunters that killed all the rouge aliens was so EPIC! But the fact that there was a magical bracelet that could make the hunter be able to control plants, have telekinesis, magically change clothes and so on felt like way too much.
I also felt as though there was not enough character development, throughout the course of the whole book I didn't grow attached to any of the characters and just kind of felt like I was watching from the sidelines instead of being immersed within the book.
Additionally, the story seemed to be really rushed, it felt as if the book took course over the duration of 3 days and I just felt as though this one book could have been split into three and had more detail added.
Because of the rushed story line the book as a whole just felt very anticlimactic.
But I must say that although I didn't personally love the book, it did have some very cool plot ideas.

Quote of the book:
A bracelet with super powers? Sign me up, please, especially since it involved me kicking alien ass. - Salina
Books in the series:

  1. The Killer Contract Agency
  2. Retribution is Mine

Book recommendation (something a little different):
If you would like to try reading a book a little different to this, try reading Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie. Unleashed is quite different to The Killer Contract Agency, but is commonly about a girl who discovers that she is more than meets the eye.

Read the full summary of the first book in the Wolf Springs Chronicals, Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie on this Goodreads link.

Star rating (out of 5):
Unfortunately, due to me not being the biggest fan of this book I will have to give it a rating of 2/5 stars. Please, always keep in mind that although one person may not like a book that doesn't mean you wont like it. It is best for me to express my true opinion of a book instead of giving a fake review and leading a potential reader on to believe that the book may be something that is may or may not be.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It was really hard for me to write this review as this is the first book I have been sent to review that I personally have found to not really be to my liking. I have no doubt that there are may other people out there who would love to read this book. But personally I did not find it to be my favorite. A thanks and mention is in order for YA Bound Book Tours for sending me this book, it was a great opportunity to read and review a new YA novel.

Until next time, keep reading!

Personal opinion on the book:
The first thing I have to say about this book is that it was too short! I seriously NEED MORE! The book was so great that I legitimately finished it in under 4 hours! I absolutely loved this book and it was a really different werewolf story, but because it was different it made it all the more better!
I loved Lucy and her sassy comments that she would make. I also loved her determination and the way she was set on getting somewhere and to do something good with her life.
This is going to sound kind of weird, but this book kind of reminded me of Barbie: Princess Charm School. Yes I know, the shame that I should feel about admitting to watching a Barbie movie... But when you get down to it the two just reminded me of each other. (Although a secret between you and me... I liked this book way more than I did the Barbie movie!)
This is the second book that I have read in two days that has left me confused about which ship I am going to join! This is getting really annoying, I need Anita Oh to create characters that aren't so lovable because it is really hard to pick who Lucy is going to end up with!
I must praise Anita Oh on the great detail she uses in this book. I seriously have such a clear picture of what the school looks like in my head. Even down to the little things, Anita Oh's writing was great.
I would recommend this book for younger teens as it was an easy read and didn't have the most complex story line. Although it did keep you on the edge of your seat the whole book.
Overall, this was a really great, quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

Quote of the book:
My heart was his and it always had been. - Lucy
Books in the series:

  1. The Truth Spell
  2. The Tiny Curse

If you like... then try...:
If you liked the Werewolf High series I recommend reading the Gallagher Girl's series by Ally Carter. Both of these books are set at a private boarding school, and both of these schools are not what they appear to be...

Read the full summary of the first book in the Gallagher Girl's series, I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter on this Goodreads link.

Star rating (out of 5):

I would have to give this book a rating of 4/5 stars. The book was written very well and had great character development, I really grew attached to some of the characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book. Overall, a really memorable book that sets expectations high for all werewolf novels.

Book girl talks the movie - Vampire Academy

Firstly, may we all just take a moment to appreciate how cool this picture is that I found of St Vladimir Academy... Like seriously, this is a pretty awesome picture.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I actually first decided to read Vampire Academy because I saw the trailer for the movie and I was just like "Oh my gosh! That was epic! I HAVE to read the book first!"
So like any true book nerd I decided to go a purchase the book. But, me being me, instead of leaving the book shop with the first book, I left with a book set of 1 through 4...
I guess the only thing I can say to validate why I just spent a LOT of money on a box of books is:
And go home I did. I went straight home to read the first two books in the series. I then progressed to calling my friends and asking them to come and watch the movie with me. Lets just say I liked the movie, but I LOVED the books.
My emotions towards the movie went along the lines of this:

I just kind of feel neutral... I am not the most happy, but I am not unhappy. The movie itself was actually quite good. The acting in the first scene was a little strange, but other wise I liked the movie.
I must say that although my feeling about the movie are quite bland, I absolutely LOVE the actress/actor that played the characters of Rose and Dimitri. The Rose character
was the perfect amount of sassy and kick-ass!

I am very disappointed that the second book wasn't turned into a movie as well! I really liked the Vampire Academy series and would have loved to see the second movie produced as well.

Thank you very much for checking out this post. Make sure to keep an eye out for my next review of The Truth Spell by Anita Oh!

Until next time, keep reading!

Personal opinion on the book:
When I fist saw the sign-on to read and review this book I knew, from just reading the blurb, that even if I wasn't asked to review it I would read it. The book went from what I like to call a "wattpad cliche" to a completely individual book with an absolutely unique story line. What I mean by saying "wattpad cliche" is that for the first two chapters it had the feel of being a normal love triangle story line. But trust me, this book proved me wrong and quickly changed into an action/adventure story with the perfect amount of romance between the characters. For most of the book I was left guessing what the magical element of the story was about, was it vampires? Werewolves? Ghosts? Nope it just had to turn out to be my absolute all time favorite, (drum roll please) Greek mythology!!!
I am not even kidding, when I found out that the magical element was Greek mythology I freaked out and had to give myself a timeout to calm down...
I HAVE to praise Desni Dantone for the pace at which she wrote this book, I find that sometimes with books like this one, the author rushes and doesn't provide enough of a back story. Or they take too long to establish the story and as a result the book may drag on.
But Desni Dentone was flawless in the pace at which she wrote this book and the way that she ended it has me wishing that I could stop writing this review and go out to buy the next book in the series right now!
Now to the characters in the story, let me firstly say that for the fist time in ages! I haven't immediately picked a ship to backup... Which is so very unlike me.
Desni Dantone! I have you to blame for my lack of loyalty between male characters! Both Alec and Nathan are swoon-worthy and have great personalities, while they are polar opposes they are also both just right for Kris.
Overall, I absolutely LOVED this book and just want to say it was very well written and I adore the Greek mythology intertwined withing the plot.

Quote of the book:

Isn't it obvious? ... I care about you. - Nathan

Books in the series:

  1. Ignited
  2. Sacrifice
  3. Salvaged Soul
  4. Avenging Heart

If you like... then try...:
If you like the Ignited series, I highly recommend the Angel series by L.A. Weatherly. When I read Ignited, certain aspects of it reminded me of Angel. They are both great books and if you are interested, or have already read one of these books, I recommend checking out the other.

Read the full summary of the first book in the Angel series, Angel by L.A. Weatherly on this Goodreads link.

Star rating (out of 5):
Overall, I give this book a star rating of 4.75/5 stars. I really enjoyed reading this book and found that it is something that I would read again and again.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to read and review this book, I loved the story line, characters and the way in which the book was written.
A huge thanks to YA Bound Book Tours for organizing and giving me the chance to review this book. Also, make sure to support the amazing author of this book Desni Dantone as well as purchasing Ignited on Barnes and Noble.

“A gift … for me?” Ruby asked, setting her cup down and clapping her hands with enthusiasm.
“Yes, of course, it’s for you,” Grams said, laughing at her granddaughter’s buoyant gesture. Then, she nodded at a large, white box tied with a beautiful red ribbon sitting on the chair. Ruby hurried over to the box, pulled the bow and removed the top of the box.
“Ooooohhhhh, Grams! It’s the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen!” Ruby exclaimed as she rubbed the soft velvety fabric against her cheek and cooed. She held it up and examined it more thoroughly. When she couldn’t stand it any longer, she slipped her arms through the large, billowing sleeves. “Oh, my goodness! It’s so luxurious,” she murmured as she pulled the hooded cloak around her. Golden flecks were embedded in the delicate floral pattern of the crimson garment. It was lined with honey-colored satin that felt soft against her skin. When she fastened the three golden buttons down the front, it wrapped perfectly around her body, accentuating her slim waist. She twirled and giggled in true teenage girl fashion and then hugged Grams. “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! It’s perfect and exactly what I needed for the dance tonight!” Ruby said, then turned and ran up the stairs to check out the complete ensemble in her full length mirror. She jumped with glee when she saw herself and ran back down the stairs to hug her grandmother again.

Personal opinion on the book:
I personally found this book to be a bit of a labouring read. I actually really liked the underlining plot line, but I found that the references to minor characters from book one to be quite confusing. This being as the reference to the characters were quite vague and didn't have enough detail to help me remember who the characters were or their impact on the story. I also found that there was a strong sense of angel politics present in this book, for some readers this would be fine, but I personally found that this just made everything more confusing.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I loved the first book and the way that Nalini Singh wrote it. The character development was great and I was so pumped to read this book. But we all know how it can be with second books not living up to the high expectations that we set for them. I believe that this book would have been ten times better if I hadn’t have left such a large amount of time between reading book one and two.

Overall, I really liked the underlying story line and the progressing of the characters, but I just don’t think that this was the book for me.

Quote of the book:
We die... We die together. That's the deal. - Elena

Books in the series:

  1. Angels' Blood
  2. Archangels Kiss
  3. Archangel's Consort
  4. Archangel's Blade
  5. Archangels Storm
  6. Archangel's Legion
  7. Archangel's Shadows
  8. Archangel's Enigma
  9. Coming soon!
Please note that there are soooo many books that are prequels or happen between books, I am not going to write all of them, but trust me. There are plenty of books in this series!...

If you like... then try...:
If you like the Guild Hunter's series I highly recommend the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson! I have adored the Maximum Ride series since forever and it is about a kick-ass girl called Maximum Ride. She is a science experiment and lives with her five other flock members. Oh and don't forget that they all have wings...

Read the full summary of the first book in the Maximum Ride series, Maximum Ride the Angel Experiment on this Goodreads link

Star rating (out of 5):
I give this book a star rating of 3.5/5 stars. I found aspects of it a bit confusing to follow, but overall it still had a great underlining story line that drew me in enough to get me through the confusion.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Thank you for reading this review, I know that this is my first review where I haven't absolutely adored the book and it was quite hard to write this. I still love the first book and believe that this series is still a good one. Although this book may have not fit my expectations I still love the characters and the story line.

Until next time, keep reading.
