I
cannot be the only one who finds it completely and utterly terrifying to find
an amazing series that has I swear about 100 books in the series. Okay,
I may be exaggerating a little bit... But still!
Long
series are intimidating! For example, all of the Mortal Instruments/Infernal
Devices/Dark Artifices written by Cassandra Clare. There is a really long
‘original’ series, that then has a ‘prequel’ series and a ‘follow-up’ series!
But in
today’s blog post, I will be explaining some ways to get over your fear of long
book series! Or at least how to try...
Number
1 – The cost
of this whole series! Like if there are already 12 books in the series, how
will you pay for them all?!
Well,
no need to fear! If the series is this long by the time you want to start
reading it you are sure to be able to find the book for cheap* at a discount
bookshop or online.
*Although
make sure to pay attention to the cover that you get, if the book series is
that popular it normally has new covers come out that are more expensive than the
old ones.
Number
2 – Where to
begin. If there are so many prequel and sequel’s, which series or book are you
even meant to begin with?!
I
recommend always reading the books in the order that they have been written.
Including novellas. This assures that you are fluently following the ‘train of
thought’ of the author and are also reading the books the same way other
readers have.
Number
3 – What is
the series even about? There is this long series and everyone loves it, but you
don’t even know what it’s about!
If you
don’t know what a book is about, always research! Get on Goodreads, watch YouTube
videos, read a blog post wink wink – I write book reviews :). Basically if
you don’t know what the series is about, there are heaps of ways to find out.
Number
4 – So there
is a majorly hyped series and you don’t know the way to go about reading it.
Well I
highly recommend waiting for my next blog post – where I will talk all about
hyped books, reading them and also about book to movie adaptations!
Bloggers Note:
Thanks
so much for checking out this post. It is a little bit short, but it is
something I have been thinking about and wanting to write about for a while. I
have always preferred coming into a series near the beginning so that I can
read as the series progresses.
Some
examples of amazing long series are:
• Maximum
Ride
• True
Blood
• Throne
of Glass
And
although those are the only long series I can think of right now, there are
many others. So if you have any long series that you love, mention them in the comments! :)
Until
next time, keep reading!
