Quick overview:

And of course, being the most powerful creature in existence, Leonie needs a protector. Although, you would think that a protector would actually want to protect…

Personal opinion on the book:
To describe this book in two words, I would have to say FANTASTICALLY AMAZING!
This book was everything I expected and more, I really loved the way that the story progressed as well as the use of character's back stories and the use of boy/girl POV's.
Typically, when there is a book like this the author doesn't spend the correct amount of time creating a good relationship between the characters and immediately draw on their feelings as love. I really like how Leonie and Korren conclude this book as being friends (odd friends, but friends none-the-less!)
Not only do I LOVE the character development, but I also loved the way that the main female character, Leonie is such a strong willed girl who although she doesn't know what is happening in this magically realm, she treats everyone as equals and respect.
Overall, this is a fabulously well-written book that I really enjoyed. It was a nice, quick read and I look forward to hearing about book two.

If you like... then try...:
If you liked the Chosen sage I recommend reading the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. Both of these books have a 'chosen one' and a protector, whose life are dedicated to their 'chosen one.' Both of these books are really great fantasy book and are set in a world similar, yet very different to our own.

Is this the spoiler life?...

In our lives we have all done something awful, it could be 'dobbing' on a sibling or not finishing homework.

I am here to confess, I have done the unspeakable, I have... spoiled a book!

I know! I know! I am a truly awful person! How dare I? What kind of human being am I?

Well... I have no reason to validate my actions. Let me insert a meme here to show you what I am:

* Amoeba: An amoeba, often called amoeboid, is a type of cell or organism which has the ability to alter its shape, primarily by extending and retracting pseudopods.
(I never know that is what she said... but hey, you learn something new every day! - Also huge thanks to Wikipedia for this definition!)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Okay, well I am sorry to all of you people you had to read that... It was just a mini rant on my behalf. Bascically the moral of this story is to not tell your best friend that Evan from the 5th Wave dies in the second book...
Wait! Oh my gosh, did I just spoil the book for you too?!?

Well... I'm sorry? ;)

Until next time, keep reading!

Book girl talks the movie - The 5th Wave

I really loved the 5th Wave book, it was one of the first alien books (apart from the LUX series) that i have actually enjoyed and actually continued reading the series.
I actually watched the trailer before I started to read the book, so like with every popular book-to-movie adaptation I want out and brought the first and second book and read them straight away.
So it is pretty simple to say that I was so excited to watch the movie when it came out.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I went and watched the movie with a friend of mine and she absolutely adored it. Now don't get me wrong, the movie was really impressive and I really enjoyed it.
But as the case with basically every book-to-movie adaptation, the book was better.

I found that the movie had some really good changes to it. For instance I liked how they changed the reason for why Cassie didn't go to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (AKA. Camp Haven) with her brother Sam. It worked out better in the movie because her character's personality made it seem as though she wouldn't let her brother leave her side, like what happened in the book. So, I really liked that change.

But one thing that really annoyed me was that a few of the funny scenes from the book weren't included in the movie. Because the 5th Wave is a pretty serious book/movie, I think that they should have included all the funny scenes that they could. And the part where Evan knocks and Cassie says comes in is really funny (you need to read the book to understand this - it's kind of hard to explain).

Another thing that really annoyed me was the shipping that occurred in this movie, as seen in the image above - Cassie, Ben and Sam are such a cute little ship-family. Firstly, Ben is super cute looking and Cassie and him had real chemistry in some of the scenes from the movie.
Spoiler alert! I don't want Cassie and Even to get together in the next movie because in the book Evan died in the second book.... So.... Yea.... I ship Ben and Cassie in the movie!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Anyway, that is just a little bit of me talking about how I liked the 5th Wave movie and what my emotions were. I really liked the movie! I really liked it a lot! But I still found it a little disappointing in parts. Although overall, I am now a shipper of Cassie and Ben!

Thanks for reading this review!
Until next time, keep reading!

Personal opinion on the book:
This book was a very easy read, I enjoyed the simple plot line and found that it was based on a very creative idea. The charecters themselves were very well written and I did grow to like some charecters more than others.
This book was basically about a girl who can see ghosts because she is a physic medium. Through being blackmailed by a dead girl's best friend, Crystal found that she is needed to help save a life.
I really liked this book and I found that it was a pleasant break from the normal supernatural/romance stories that I have come to believe would typically come from a book of this sort.
The physic story was very cool and meant that the author had more leeway to create a new story. I believe that Alicia Rades took this opportunity in stride and wrote a very interesting and enjoyable book.

Books in the series:

  1. Fire in Frost
  2. Desire in Frost
  3. Inspired by Frost

If you like this book, I recommend reading Mercy by Rebecca Lim. Although these two books are not based around the same premise, they both have the same sort of other-worldly vibe to them.

Star rating (out of 5):
I give this book a star rating of 4.5/5 stars. I am typically quite a wuss when it comes to books that have ghosts in it, but I really loved this book. Written so incredibly well, deserves the extra 0.5 stars.

Personal opinion on the book:
Well firstly, I must let all you know that I actually haven’t read the first book in this amazing fantasy series. Although this is the case, I found that this book was quite capable to be read as a standalone.
This book had a really great story line and the characters were very well written. In this book I actually didn’t really like who the main female chose to date, sure, I haven’t read the first book with their relationship development … But I still feel as though Lucy and Dylan could have made a cute couple (when Dylan wasn’t acting like a jerk).
Pauline Gruber, wrote this book so very well and I must say that I really loved escaping into this world of supernatural creatures.
The story itself was really engaging and I was up every night reading this book until I completed this book all too fast.

Overall, this book was a fantastic and fast read. This book will satisfy all of those fantasy lovers out there.

Books in the series:
  1. The Girl and the Raven
  2. The Girl and the Gargoyle
  3. The Girl and the Demon

(Book 1 in The Girl and the Raven series: The Girl and the Raven by Pauline Gruber)

If you like... then try...:

If you enjoyed The Girl and the Raven series I HIGHLY recommend picking up the first book in the Dark Elements series! This series is similarly based around gargoyles and supernatural creatures - such as demons and witches! I absolutely adore both of these series and if you like one you will differently like the other!

Star rating (out of 5):
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and found that although I had not read the first in the series, I was still able to enjoy the characters and story line immensely. That's why I gave this book a rating of 4.1/5 stars.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Interview with Pauline Gruber:

Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been writing? What genre do you write?
I’ve been writing “seriously” for five years, although I’ve been dabbling most of my life. I write paranormal romance, fantasy adventure, contemporary romance, and science fiction for young adults. <LOL> Maybe it would it be easier to list what I don’t write. Dystopian, steampunk, and horror.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
The inspiration for The Girl and the Raven came while I was falling asleep one night and then it proceeded to rob me of sleep for a week. A sixteen-year-old girl from Tennessee moves to Chicago and is nearly run over by a wealthy investor barrelling down the street. Turns out a demon is coming for the man’s son and this girl is the only one who can save him. It’s an over simplified version of the story, but there it is. I loved writing that story!

Where/When do you do the most of your writing?
I write on the train while commuting to my day job. It’s fabulous because I can either plug in my earbuds and listen to one of my music mixes on my iPod or keep my ears open and eavesdrop on interesting conversations. It’s great fuel for future characters and stories. I also write at my dining room table at home.

How can readers reach you?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Make sure to read the first book in this amazing series! (I will be doing the same!) This book deserves to be promoted and was a fantastically amazing read!

Until next time, keep reading!
